Forest School

March in the Forest

Half of the children in school have now had their first block of 6 Forest School sessions. They are already looking forward to their next block next academic year! This half term, trees have been climbed, dens have been built, toasting sticks have been whittled, interesting concoctions have been made in the mud kitchen and the children have impressed us with their flint and steel skills to light a fire.

February in the Forest

We have been using a mora knife to learn how to whittle. We made stick friends, magic wands and marshmallow toasting sticks.

January in the Forest

New year, new term and 4 more new groups have arrived for their block of Forest School sessions.

The children have loved learning how to tie a reef knot. Their challenge was the use this knot when building their own dens and shelters for Guardian Gomble's friends.

November in the Forest

The children have been enjoying seeing the changes in the forest environment now the weather has become more autumnal.

We have been learning how to use a bow saw safely in order to saw our own wood discs. We've also been using reef knots to tie pieces of rope together to make dens. The children in Year 4 made an enormous den, large enough for the whole group!
